The 12th annual Cobble Beach Concours d'Elegance is just around the corner, and we are still looking for volunteers to help make this year's event a success!   Join us September 18-20, 2026 for a weekend of world-class automobiles, exciting experiences and exceptional hospitality.    Whether you've volunteered with us for years or are joining us for the first time, we'd love to have you on the team.  There are various roles available throughout the entire weekend, that are available to be picked up through our link.    Commitment: 

  • A minimum 4–6 hour shift, depending on the role
  • A mandatory volunteer orientation meeting will be held before the event.

We value our volunteers and take pride in the event we put on every year. Net proceeds from this event support Sunnybrook and the Brightshores Health System Owen Sound Foundation. To date, Cobble Beach Concours d'Elegance has raised over $1,460,000 for its charities!

Function 

Board members are responsible for determining and implementing policies and procedures to achieve the mission and mandate of Big Brothers Big Sisters Grey, Bruce and West Simcoe.   

 

Role and Responsibilities 

  • Understand and demonstrate a commitment to the organization’s mission and programs; 

  • Be informed about agency policies and programs in order to support adherence to the National Standards as set out by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada; 

  • Possess knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: policy, finance, programs, personnel, and advocacy; 

  • Contribute skills and knowledge by participating actively in meetings and committee work; 

  • Understand and maintain confidentiality; 

  • Avoid any potential conflicts of interest; 

  • Ensure the organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements; 

  • Assist in fostering positive relationships among the Board, staff and community to support fulfillment of organizational mandate. 

  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization;  

 

General Duties 

  • Prepare for meetings by reading agendas, minutes, reports and other documentation required to actively participate in them; 

  • Attend meetings regularly; 

  • Be an active participant on at least one board committee; 

  • Keep up to date with issues and trends that affect the organization; 

  • Participate in the review of the Board’s structure, approve changes, and assist in bylaw amendments; 

  • Participate in the recruitment of new board members and staff; 

  • Support and participate in the evaluation of the board; 

  • Get to know other committee members and build a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus; 

  • Assist in the recruitment of new volunteers for all positions in the agency; 

  • Share in the oversight of staff including review and approval of employment contracts;
  • Participate in fundraising for the organization and any events related thereto; 

  • Participate in orientation, educational and strategic planning sessions;  

  • Understand and monitor the organization’s financial affairs including review and approval of annual budgets;

Overview & Impact: The Humane Education Program is an excellent way to connect with youth in our community and teach them about empathy, compassion and responsible pet ownership by focusing on the human-animal bond.  Annually more than 4000 youth participate in the Humane Education Program - building skills in social and emotional development.

Based on the Humane Education Volunteer’s skill set and chosen course / club, they may support this important GTHS program at our Collingwood Animal Centre and / or in the community. The majority of our programming takes place onsite at our Animal Centre.

Position Summary: Reporting to the Humane Education Specialist, Humane Education Volunteers assist and engage youth aged between 7-17 enrolled in a range of GTHS after-school programs. The youth age group supported will depend on the course / club the HE Volunteer selects.

Time Commitment based on area(s) of interest: 8 consecutive weeks’ commitment is required (onsite session dates will be provided at time of application or enquiry). Volunteers will be expected to arrive 15 minutes before and stay approximately 15 minutes after the club / course session time.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include:

  • Assisting the Humane Education Specialist as needed
  • Helping to create a fun, encouraging learning environment
  • Live videoing and explanation of Animal Centre activities (tour, Q&A)
  • Making animal related crafts
  • Engaging, supervising and working with children to direct their activities
  • Ensuring animals are being handled compassionately
  • Answering questions that arise
