Duties•Research period fashions (both male and female) to document styles, material types, stitching methods and accessories 
•Research appropriate patterns 
•Sew historic costumes 
•Fit and alter costumes for costumed staff 
•Clean and launder costumes 
•Repair damaged or worn costumes pieces 
•Maintain a catalogue of Grey Roots costumes

BenefitsCostume Assistants help bring history to life by creating fashion pieces for interpretation and teaching. They use their sewing skills for the benefit of all Grey Roots visitors. Upon completion of 20 hours of service annually, they and a guest may visit Grey Roots free of charge. They will receive a quarterly newsletter, discounts in the gift shop, insurance coverage while on duty and an annual recognition event. Training and orientation is provided.
