Description
Description (Service) Community-based organization with volunteer tutors to work with school-aged children and youth and support their families, to improve basic reading, writing and math skills * Also offers opportunities for youth with high literacy skills to showcase abilities at events such as writing competitions and drama productions 
 
Services and programs include: 
 
* free, confidential one-on-one tutoring for school-aged children 
* free drama workshops to develop literacy skills and listening, presentation, stress management 
* free long-term loans of learning materials, including books, games, puzzles and kits 
* occasional workshops in related areas for children, youth and adult allies  
* literacy-oriented practical and cultural activities and experiences for children, youth and their families to enjoy the benefits of literacy, including theatre productions, writing competitions, bookmark contest for younger students and essay competition for older students 
* public speaking and speaking to clubs, agencies, groups and organizations on aspects of literacy and social health 
 
Volunteer opportunities are available for adults over 18 as tutors, board members or helpers at special events * training is provided * application and police check required
