Description

Description (Service) The GST/HST credit is a tax-free quarterly payment that helps individuals and families with low or modest incomes offset all or part of the GST or HST that they pay.

A notice will be sent in July advising of the amount of the credit and how it was calculated.

Quarterly cheques will be sent in July, October, January, and April.

An income tax return must be filed every year to receive the GST/HST credit.
Sup. Description If the person for whom the cheque was issued has died, the cheque must be returned, together with a photocopy of the death certificate. If there is a surviving spouse, then the cheque will be re-issued in his/her name. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should the cheque be cashed (even if it is issued in the month of death). A change of address can be changed either over the phone or in writing. The client should provide name; SIN; and complete previous and new addresses. 1989 was the base year for which the first two GST cheques were automatically sent to those eligible. If a client feels he has retroactive monies owing back to this time, he should contact this office first, with a copy of his income tax ready in order to see if he was eligible for that year BEFORE completing the GST form for retroactive monies owing. The above fax number is the same as for income tax. Just be sure to specify the correct department on the fax sheet. The cheques are mailed out the Friday of the first full week of January, April, July, and October. The dates for 2009 are: January 9, April 10, July 10, and October 9. Wait until three weeks from this date before phoning about not receiving a cheque!
