Description

Description (Service)

Breast screening for early detection of breast cancer in women, Two-Spirit, trans and nonbinary people.

Screening includes mammography (x-rays of breast tissue). Screening results are sent to both the patient and their doctor.

Patients who receive normal results are automatically recalled for their next screening appointment through a reminder letter from Cancer Care Ontario.

Patients who receive abnormal results are referred to their doctor for further investigation, or are referred directly for additional tests. These tests are performed on Wednesdays.

Works in conjunction with Breast Assessment Program to serve patients whom require a referral.

The OBSP is administered by Cancer Care Ontario through its regional cancer centres.

Services include; 2D/3D Tomography, Contrast, Biopsy, Ultrasound

Eligibility The Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) recommends that most eligible women, Two-Spirit, trans and nonbinary people ages 40 to 74 get screened with mammography every two years.
People ages 40 to 74 are eligible for screening through the OBSP if they:
  • have no new breast cancer symptoms
  • have no personal history of breast cancer
  • have not had a mastectomy
  • have not had a screening mammogram within the last 11 months
  • If transfeminine, have used feminizing hormones for at least five years in a row
Application Call for appointment. Primary care providers can refer women, Two-Spirit, trans and nonbinary people to the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) or people can self-refer by contacting their local OBSP site.
